Well, we have finally made some great progress in the TN start-up, however a question has arisen that I please need some clarification to. We have voted on a new name, it has free geek in it, and we will still be following FOSS guidelines, but can we still use free geek in the name such as this:

Computer FreeCycle – Educating The Community. A FreeGeek Organization

The name of our organization is Computer Freecycle, Educating the community is part of our mission (our main mission statement is "bridging the digital divide") and we still associated ourselves with Free Geek on the end.

One of our 5 year goals is one thing that is already being discussed on the west coast and that is having a mothership at the state level and other "satellites" within the state.

For example: We would be the first TN start-up and then assist in helping start and promote other free geek organizations in the state (Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Tri-Cities, etc.) This covers most of the major metropolitian areas in our state and key rural areas as well.

There were a few reason the people elected to the board were concerened with putting the free geek up front, as well as using the state name "limiting" us to other possible opportunities.

Please let us know your thoughts on these matters, and especially if we are still granted a free geek sister organization status.

We have also registered our domain as :computerfreecycle.org and if you do allow us to continue to be associated with free geek, please add our link on the sister organization part of the site.

We look forward to hearing from y'all soon :o)

Sincerely,

Shawn M. Campbell
Computer Freecycle
President
