[freegeek-startup] Modems

I'm getting ready to start selling my cheap GNU/Linux rebuilds
locally... any thoughts on my options when it comes to people who need
a modem? I live in a rural area, and not everyone has access to (or
can afford) a DSL or cable hookup.
Linux-compatible modems, even external ones, seem pretty expensive. It
doesn't make sense to double (or more) the cost of these rebuilt
systems just to add a modem. I did find a couple places that sell the
Best Data 56SX92 external modem for a pretty good price, but only if I
buy a bunch of them at once. And I'd rather use internal modems if
possible.
Or maybe I should purchase Linuxant drivers for salvaged modems?
This could be a real whammy, and I'm stuck. Any suggestions much appreciated.
