The IRS will send you a confirmation letter when you get your
provisional status. That document is what constitutes formal proof that
you have the 501(c)(3) status. When you get final status you get another
letter, kinda cryptic, that says your status has been converted or
something like that. Keep these letters on file in a safe place, and
have several copies made up if and when people ask to see them. You may
need them for grant applications, opening bank accounts, etc.
